Duke Basketball Before 1974
Basketball came to Trinity College in 1906, introduced by athletic director Wilbur Wade Card. The first game was a 24–10 loss to Wake Forest. Trinity became Duke University, Eddie Cameron coached the team from 1929 to 1942 and later gave his name to the Indoor Stadium that opened in 1940, and Dick Groat became the program's first national player of the year in 1952. Duke was a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1953, and Vic Bubas took it to its first Final Four in 1963.
This section will catalogue those seasons and the men who played them, the same way the site covers the Coach K and Scheyer years: every roster, every season, and as many of the stories as can be found. It is not built yet.
The years just before Coach K are here now. The Foster Era, 1974–80 has every player and all six seasons, including the 1978 national championship game.
